Nutrition for the Mother-to-be Part 2

In Part 1, we covered nutrition through minerals needed.  Part 2 we'll cover nutrition through vitamins.

Vitamins and your Pregnancy

Vitamin B-6-- With pregnancy usually comes nausea.  Many women have found relief from this nausea by taking a large amounts of Vitamin B6NeoLife's Super B will contain all your B Vitamins.

Folic Acid -- As one of the B vitamins, Folic Acid plays a very important part in the proper formation of the child.  Neural Tube Defects (NTD) result from too little Folic Acid.  Spina bifida, where the spinal column protrudes outside the backbone, and other malformations of the brain and nervous system are a common result of too little Folic Acid.  Also commonly associated with Folic Acid deficiency during pregnancy are cleft palate, brain damage, slow development, and poor learning ability.  Deficiency may also lead to premature birth, and afterbirth hemorrhaging.

Vitamin C-- High daily amounts of vitamin C appear to reduce labor time and keep down stretch marks.  The perineum stretches much more readily reducing pain in child birth, and returns more nearly like it was before pregnancy.  Continuing Vitamin C after birth prevents Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) according to Dr Kalokerinos, an Australian physician.  Dr Kalokerinos won the Australian Medal of Merit for outstanding scientific research in this area.  His findings are that a small dose of Vitamin C for the new-born, with increasing small amounts up to age one, will effectively prevent SIDS in every case.  ALL-C, Super C, and Powdered C are all natural formulas, rich in the flavonoids, for building the immune system, detoxifying the body, strengthening the perineum, and preventing SIDS.  (Adding Powdered C to a bottle and sippy cup for your child).  Nursing mothers taking Super-C to pass through to their baby.

Vitamin A -- This vitamin is essential for the development of skin and organ tissue.  NeoLife's water soluble natural Vitamin A from north sea cod will help make a healthy baby, and keep mother's skin soft and free of blemishes during her pregnancy.

Toxemia

"Toxemia" (also called "Eclampsia") is a condition associated with pregnancy which may be damaging or fatal to both mother and child.  It shows up as a sudden weight gain, puffiness of the ankles and other parts of the body, and high blood pressure.  If it continues it could develop into convulsions, followed by coma, and finally death.  It is usually easy to control if corrected when it first makes its appearance.

According to doctors who specialize in nutrition toxemia is caused by a protein deficiency.  Without adequate protein intake each day, the protein level in the blood declines.  This causes the system to leak water into the tissue area causing the puffiness.  When you eat more protein, the increased levels of albumin (protein) in the blood attract the water back out of the tissue, and the kidneys eliminate it.

Preventing toxemia is very important to the expectant mother.  This means getting at least 75 grams of protein per day.  Super Ease and NouriShake protein help make this easy and delightful by supplying about 15-20 grams of protein per serving (depending on the size of the serving and what it is served in).  One or two delicious servings per day will go a long way toward helping keep away toxemia, as well as supplying energy and the building blocks for the developing child.

Digesting protein is crucial at this point.  While Super Ease and NouriShake protein are super- Beta-Gest each meal can make the difference between getting the protein needed for proper balance, or nose-diving into an upset that ends in toxemia.
digestable, there can still be a problem with digestion because of the upset in the system due to the pregnancy.  a couple of

PhytoDefense

The mother-to-be must be especially concerned about the ravages of free-radical oxygen.  Her own health and the health of the baby are in the balance during pregnancy.  The antioxidants (also called Phytonutrients) block this destructive force of free radical oxygen, and lay the groundwork for a safe and healthy pregnancy.   NeoLife PhytoDefense has the next 3 important nutrients in easy daily packets.

Carotenoid Complex -- from yellow, red and dark green fruits and vegetables -- protects the fat based parts of the cells and blood stream, guarding against heart attack and cancer, and bolstering the immune system.  This is not the time to be down with colds and flu.

Flavonoid Complex -- from red, blue and green fruits and vegetables -- protects the water based parts of the cells from free-radical attack.  It also helps complete the equation needed for collagen building for both mother and child.

Cruciferous Plus-- from root and ground vegetables -- protects both the fat based and water based parts of the cell against cancer.  Especially effective against breast cancer.

Vitamin E and Vitamin C -- from vegetable sources -- are also antioxidants.  Vitamin E works with the carotenoids to protect the fat based parts of the cell.  Vitamin C works with the flavonoids to protect the water based parts of the cell.  NeoLife has Super C, All C, Powdered Vitamin C and also Vitamin E.

Remember, timing is very important in pregnancy.  The sooner you can get your body on a regimen that is healthy, the greater are your chances for an easy delivery and a healthy baby.  Much future misery can be avoided if you act now, if you're trying or planning on getting pregnant, and begin providing the right nutrition at the right time.
